Pro-Business Attitude
“From the inception, local
development officials have
been there to assist us with
various tasks including
selecting the best location
for the plant and setting up
interviews with potential
employees.”
Matt Brunner,
Plant Manager,
Plaskolite, Inc.
Local elected officials recognize that a vibrant and
growing business community will improve the area’s
quality of life.
Development Focus
To support economic development, local officials have
invested millions to improve access and infrastructure –
two key components for business growth. Further, they
have approved tax incentives to encourage over a billion
dollars in investment.
In 1999, Plaskolite, Inc. selected Muskingum County as
the site for its new 163,000 square foot manufacturing
facility. Two years later, the Columbus-based company
expanded. The company completed a second plant
expansion in 2004 bringing its total investment in
Muskingum County to $45 million. The facility
produces clear and colored
acrylic sheet, acrylic mirrors and
acrylic and styrene lighting
panels.
Nine other companies also call
the Airport Industrial Park home.
In each case, local incentives
were provided as a way to
encourage investment and job
creation by the private sector.
A long-time member of the
Zanesville business community,
Mattingly Foods, a distributor of
food products to national and
regional restaurant chains, has
accessed local and state incentives for two expansions
in the past four years. As a result, Mattingly Foods
added 65 employees, increasing its total workforce to
more than 250.
