College attendance has significantly increased in recent years.  Today nearly 21% of the Muskingum County adult population has a college degree.  This number is expected to climb.

Zanesville-Muskingum County offers a wealth of higher-education resources and opportunities.  From customized vocational and technical certifications for working adults to associates degrees, to bachelors and masters degrees – Muskingum County has it all. 

Mid East Career & Technology Center

The main campus of the Mid-East Career & Technology Center is located in Zanesville.  The campus has two constituent groups: 11th and 12th grade high school students as well as adults seeking career training.  Training programs for adults have been created through collaboration with area employers and can lead to professional certifications as well as college credits.

The Adult Center for Education is the adult education training division of the Mid-East Career & Technology Centers.  Fully accredited by North Central Accreditation (NCA), the Adult Center offers full-time career development credential based training programs, short-term training, and customized training for business and industry.

Full-Time Training : All 11 full-time training programs lead students to earn nationally recognized industry credentials or licensure, all offer college transfer credits, and all are Federal Financial Aid eligible.  Over the past three (3) years, 85% of students enrolled in these programs have completed their training, 90% have earned industry credentials, and 85% have secured related jobs.  These 11 offerings cover trades, healthcare, public safety, and business/office career fields.

Short-Term Training: The Adult Center offers over 50 part-time programs, many with associated industry credentials for entry level employment, career advancement, hobbies, and encumbant workers.  Programs are offered quarterly, on a rotating basis.

Customized Business & Industry Training: The Adult Center provides skill and workforce training tailored to meet an individual employers needs.  Most training can be offered at Mid-East or at the worksite.  The Adult Center has experts specializing in OSHA Training, Health & Public Safety Training, Computer and Office Skills, Human Resources Skills (Customer Service, Team Building, Employee Selection/Advancement, etc.) and Industrial Training (PLC’s, Welding, VFD’s, Pneumatics/Hydraulics, etc).  All customized consultative Training comes with the Adult Center’s 100% Satisfaction Money Back Guarantee.

Zane State Community College

Zane State UniversityZane State Community College is a state-assisted, associate-degree granting public institution of higher education.  Zane State College, which is adjacent to Ohio-University-Zanesville,  is one of the fastest growing colleges in Ohio, and it has one of the highest graduation rates for two-year colleges in the nation.  On average, 85% to 90% of the Zane State’s graduates are employed in their chosen field of study within one year of graduation.  Zane State College has been recognized as one of the Top 30 Community Colleges in nation as measured by student engagement and graduation rates.  Zane State was also named 7th in the nation among small community colleges for outstanding technology services and support. 

Zane State College offers 33 academic programs and 21 Occupational Skills Programs.  Programs are designed to offer experience-based learning designed to provide a broad-based competency in a field of applied business or science and include an approved distribution of general, basic, and technical courses.  Although the objective of these programs is employment rather than transferability of credits to a baccalaureate or advanced degree, program credits are accepted by many colleges. 

Approximately, 2,500 students attend Zane State College.  While smaller than urban counter parts, Zane State’s enrollment in engineering technology programs is comparable to program enrollment at much larger community colleges.  In the spring of 2010, Zane State College unveiled plans for a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and Mathematics (STEMM) Center.   College leadership plans to break ground within a year.  Zane State was also recently awarded a $3 million grant from the Department of Energy for Advanced Energy Training programs.

Zane State College’s Business & Training Division partners with Ohio University to provide premium skill assessment and training that is customized to the needs of employers.  Zane State is constantly developing new curriculum.  Through extensive and job specific training, employees gain the necessary confidence and skills needed to excel, which in turn, increases workforce morale and productivity.  We offer a variety of formats that include 1/2 day and full day sessions at employer facilities or on campus.  More information at www.zanestate.edu.

 

Ohio University – Zanesville Campus

Muskingum University

Muskingum College Montgomery HallLocated in quaint New Concord, Muskingum University was founded in 1837 as a Presbyterian college of liberal arts and sciences “to develop—intellectually, spiritually, socially and physically—whole persons, by fostering critical thinking, positive action, ethical sensitivity and spiritual growth, so that they may lead vocationally productive, personally satisfying and socially responsible lives.” 

Today Muskingum University has about 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students from 22 states and 13 countries.  Forty-four academic majors are offered, including 13 interdisciplinary majors.  Nine pre-professional programs are offered, including pre-medicine and pre-law.  Approximately 65 percent of entering students graduate, and nearly 80% of first-year students return.  The 225-acre campus has six residence halls with over 90% of first year students living on campus.
