Largest Solar Array East of the Rockies Planned near the wilds

 Zanesville, Ohio - October 5, 2010 - Investors and utility executives joined Governor Ted Strickland today to announce the planned construction of the Turning Point Solar Array near southeastern Muskingum County.

  The 49.9-megawatt crystalline silicon-based solar array would be the largest solar array in the country today, and when completed, the largest solar array east of the Rocky Mountains. The project is expected to be built in phases but when completed will comprise approximately 239,400 panels on 1,000 acres. Quasar Energy Turns Waste to Energy in Muskingum County

 

September 13, 2010 - Quasar Energy Group is on schedule to begin energy production this month at its newly constructed anaerobic digester in southern Muskingum County. 

  Quasar will take biosolids from municipal sewage treatment plants, industrial food waste and agricultural waste and use advanced anaerobic digestion technology to recycle energy from the organic waste. Anaerobic digestion is a natural process where microorganisms break down organic waste materials (biomass) in the absence of oxygen.  Biogas (methane) is created through the process for conversion to energy.  The technology has been commonly used on farms in Europe, with over 8,000 systems in operation today. Port Authority Launches New Website

September 15, 2010 - The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority provided a glimpse of its new website during the Port Authority Board meeting. 

Once publicly launched later this month, the new website will be the cornerstone of marketing efforts for the Port Authority.  The Port Authority works to retain and expand existing businesses as well as attract new businesses to Zanesville and Muskingum County.  The new website will allow users to easily access relevant data in a timely fashion.  Data on the website will include: labor force information, maps, a sites and buildings database, education and training information, operating cost information, demographics, incentive information and links to other resources.

Zane State Receives Grant to Train Advanced Energy Workers

   A nearly $3 million job training grant will provide opportunities for Zane State College students to study new energy sources.

Zane State College President Paul Brown said he learned the college was a recipient of the grant Tuesday, but groundwork to move forward with new energy programs is already under way at the college.

"We've already been working behind the scenes to get energy programs approved by the Ohio Board of Regents. This is a direction we were going anyway," Brown said. "The job training grant is going to help us really now be able to move more aggressively in this area." Read More ...
